PixyJack Press is a 100% solar and wind-powered independent publisher located in the Colorado Rockies. Their selection of titles covers renewable energy and home building, plus animals, wildlife and nature.
Ever since 1997 when author Rex Ewing teamed up with his wife, LaVonne, an award-winning graphic designer, to produce their first horse nutrition title, PixyJack Press has endeavored to produce books that create a ripple effect.
Drawing from their firsthand experience with renewable energy, they’ve published a number of helpful titles for homeowners, including Power With Nature, Got Sun? Go Solar, Crafting Log Homes Solar Style and the newly release book Log Home Secrets of Success by Roland Sweet . For those wanting to understand hydrogen energy and its possible role in our future, HYDROGEN—Hot Stuff Cool Science is now in its 2nd edition. And to aid those looking for green jobs in the fast-growing field of alternative energy, they released Careers in Renewable Energy by Gregory McNamee in 2008.
Adding another title to the wildlife and nature section in early 2009, PixyJack Press published BEAR-OLOGY by Sylvia Dolson, an entertaining yet informative book about bears. This title nicely complements Living With Bears by Linda Masterson, a handbook for anyone living or recreating in bear country.
Going further south, Monkeys Are Made of Chocolate by Jack Ewing is ideal for travelers, students of rainforest ecology and anyone interested in Costa Rica.
All in all, PixyJack Press is rather ‘green’ when it comes to their business (which is powered with solar and wind energy), and the books they publish (over 100,000 in print, with the vast majority printed on 100% recycled paper). Even Publishers Weekly took note of this unique combination in the January 5, 2009 issue.
PixyJack Press is a member of the Independent Book Publishers Association, American Solar Energy Society, and the Green Press Initiative.
